There is a small chapter on Natural Care of Bees in her book 'The Complete Herbal Handbook for Farm and Stable' which might interest some of you.

Here are a couple of quotes

    Quote:
In clear-headed truth the exploitation of bees does not pay either in time or money. Leave the bees alone to manage their own kingdoms (in which management they are perfection in every detail), and the healthy hives will produce enough surplus healthy honey to justify the small amount of care required from the beekeeper.

    And

    Quote:
Modern beekeeping seems to be a deliberate disorganization of every bee community that the beekeeper owns. The biggest crime of the beekeeper is the killing off of the chosen queen of the hive.

She gives a recipe for syrup of sage honey for feeding to the bees in preference to using white sugar solutions. She also talks about giving bees vinegar and salt.

This is a 1991 edition, but it was first written in 1952 and she was already concerned about the drastic reduction in health and honey yield of domestic bees.
