|

I just read that Yellow Jasmine (gelsemium sempervirens) is poisonous to honeybees. Does anyone have any experience with Jasmine near your hives?
Will bees avoid this plant?
Of course I have a five year old Yellow Jasmine vine growing two feet away from my hive. I didn't get my bees until after the Jasmine bloom was over so there was no problem this year, but I'm concerned that I may need to remove this plant before next spring. I don't want to do that unless it's really necessary as it covers an old ugly wall and it is really fragrant and beautiful when it's blooming.

I have read that this is true. I have also read that the honey made from the nectar can be poisonous to people too. _________________ Gary

At least according to this your concern is well founded. You could replace it with trumpet vine - it survives our winters so it should do well in you area.

Well it looks like I'll be digging up that Yellow Jasmine this weekend and planting some other kind of foraging vine. Thanks for the info!
