A small group has been working hard to put this together - please support us!
We have written an OPEN LETTER TO THE BBKA asking for them to sever their financial links with pesticide corporations. We have the support of some influential people, including scientists, TV presenters, beekeepers and environmental campaigners.
YOU CAN READ THE LETTER AND THE SUPPORTERS LIST HERE
Please leave your comments on the guestbook provided, and pass the link on to anyone you know who is a beekeeper, especially members of the BBKA. We want to get this message to as many of them as possible before the BBKA Annual Delegates Meeting on Saturday January 15. |

Good stuff!
As sson as I have spoken to the environmental editor of a certain newspaper, the message goes out to around 7,000 beekeepers + 435 BKAs + 2,000 journalists.
Let's make a big impact and get some changes at the top. |

And here's the reply:
"Thank you for your email on the 9 January 2011 containing an open letter to the BBKA.
The Welsh Beekeeper’s Association (WBKA) is aware of the current concerns regarding neonicotinoid pesticides and has consulted with the Welsh Assembly Government to seek their advice (see minutes of WBKA Council meeting 14/10/09). They have advised the WBKA that there is currently no evidence to suggest that neonicotinoid pesticides are responsible for honey bee deaths in the UK and that the incidents that have occurred within some EU Member States are down to misuse of the products rather than the actual pesticides. The WBKA will continue to liaise with the Welsh Assembly Government regarding this subject and its members will be informed should any new information arise.
Regarding the open letter to the BBKA, the WBKA does not have information on the accounts of the BBKA and cannot comment on the relationships that have been developed with certain companies and the transactions that may have taken place. It is considered an issue for the members of the BBKA and the WBKA will not be getting involved in this matter in any way.
I do hope these comments go some way to answering your concerns."
To follow up on this less than adequate response, I replied with an email:
Suggesting that the WBKA should undertake an independent search of the scientific literature on this subject and if necessary ask for clarification from the Welsh Assembly Government and/or Defra.
and,
Enquiring why the WBKA had not taken the opportunity to declare that they do not benefit from sponsorship from any AgChem companies.
I have not received an acknowledgement to this last email!

Hmmm. 'Misuse of the product' is the standard Bayer excuse. _________________ Gareth

hello,
Have you seen this video
Madam, Sir,
I invite you to watch this video that we just recorded with the Pollinis team.
I will explain how the bees disappear, who is to blame, and how we can take action to stop the slaughter.
To see the video, click here.
Thank you to transfer this email to your contacts: no one should ignore what is happening right now with agriculture and nature. The stakes are too high!
Sincerely,
Marie-Antoinette
