Hello all,

I am interested in trying to get an informal local group started for Warwickshire. If anybody is interested in supporting getting this started I would be very happy to hear from you.
The initial plan would be to hold regular informal gatherings to share and discuss idea's with like minded people and hopefully grow the group and expand its activities.
So if you live in or even near Warwickshire and would like to be involved then you can either reply to this post or if you prefer send a PM with a method of contact.

Many thanks!

Gareth H

Just wanted to stress the point that it is not necessary anybody interested actually lives in Warwickshire. If you feel you live within travelling distance or can take part even occasionally wherever you are based, do not feel restricted by your own locale. Everybody is welcome.

Hi Gareth,
I'd be interested in being part of a local group. I live in Dorridge, which used to be Warwickshire, though it is now West Midlands. I have to be honest & say that I would be unlikely to make many meetings or activities because my days are so full as it is. I think it is a great idea to have a local group, though & I am interested in keeping in touch, even if it only through this bulletin board.
Cheers

Hi Charlye,

Many thanks for getting in touch !
It is fine to be as involved or not as you please and as you can manage.
I have started a dedicated webpage and email for the group.
I will post the link below for you and any other future interested persons.

The page is new, and as such does not actually have any content so far but I will be looking to remedy this as time allows.

Conserving wild bees

Research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.

Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.

There is a spectacular display of wild bee hotels here
