Hi Narustin
A small group of us around Crouch End/Finchley/Highgate with about 7 or 8 TBHs as yet haven't all met, but you are welcome to make contact with a personal email. We also have a connection with a group further East who we met at the Natural Beekeeping Conference.
Hope you can join us

Hi all - I have built a TBH and am hoping to get a package of bees this spring. Would welcome having some more experienced people who live locally and can impart their wisdom.

I know that some of the posts are quite old so do not know if those are still active. I live in Mill Hill and have 4 TBH's in my garden. If anyone is in the locality and has TBH's I would really like to contact for an exchange of ideas. Try 07770 933662. Nigel |

Conserving wild bees
Research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.
Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.
There is a spectacular display of wild bee hotels here
