My name is Tom and I live east of Kingman AZ just off Old Route 66 . As my screen name implies I am a former US Paratrooper . I am now retired and have taken an interest in gardening . It seems that this area is rather devoid of any good dirt so I am in the process of collecting horse and goat manure from neighbors so as to build up a supply of organic material in which to grow a good garden . A friend of mine several miles to the north seems to have an abundance of bees which frequent his greenhouse . I have the greenhouse but sadly not a lot of bees . They visit some larger bushes around my property but don't seem to find my planting area . I'm thinking that if I start a hive where they must enter and leave in the direction of my greenhouse they will "help me out". My greenhouse has numerous openings for them to enter and exit so it's an open invitation . Hopefully these bees that frequent the bushes near me will decide to set up housekeeping in my new "bee condo". The odd thing is that they don't seem to be the "bumble bees" that I am used to . They seem to be a bit smaller but still "buzz" around . They hang around the blossoms on the bushes so I'm hoping they are at least cousins to the bumble bee . I will try to find a picture of one and check it out .
If there's anyone else in Northern Arizona let me know .
