hey all,
new here and to the whole beekeeping experience. we're in southern manitoba, canada.
our interests as a whole are to start living in the terms of "less is more" plan, or as we call our own "haveall plan". we believe that if we can get out of the needy materialistic trends of society, within a few years we can be self reliant for everything we need to survive very comfortably and happily.
and well, beekeeping has come into our plans a few times, but aheadline in an M.E.N. email about top bar hives caught my attention. i'm glad it did. i rushed within the hour to buy the barefoot beekeeper book. skimmed it the first night, read up to page 52 yesterday, and skimmed the rest. took a short hiata on reading tonight.
but i wanted to see the forums because we also believe that there are enough like-minded people on this great planet who are unhappy with the direction us killing machines(humans) are sending the planet in. such like-minded people gather on wholesome forums such as this, sharing volumes of knowledge and firsthand experiences freely. only asking to get the same in return!!! what a great barter system forums are.
anyways, now that i finally got my activation link, it is sadly time for bed, without any pages read here. there will be the morrow for us to enjoy!!!
looking forward to a great learning experience here!!!
p.s. excellent pdf book by the way. very helpful in understanding tbh setups.

All the research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.
Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.
