sent this by email to local councillors.
Dear All, I noticed recently a sign stating spraying had taken place on the stated land and advice to avoid walking there for a few days.
A local dogwalker subsequently told me a pesticide the name i foget had been used just before the deadline for it to be banned due to being cancerous.
Now many farmers and land owners are using many pesticides that are harmful to the environment nowdays, bees, birds wildlife are depleted by 70 percent over the past 20 years in the UK like many such places, fishes in the oceans likewise, parkinsons now linked to pesticides used in the countryside ...and still we persist in allowing it to endanger our environment and our health and the health of future generations. I am now in my 50's, but when my contemporaries had children so many of them developped asthmas at young ages ... linked to pollution from cars the most, air quality.
Now the stench from whatever local farmers put on fields last autumn also I suggest was far from natural but more like concentrated and noxious. Nothing that smells that strong can be good to breath in. Not walking on this now polluted ex golf course does not mean we avoid breathing in the noxious sustances in our air carried by the wind for miles around !
I urge you therefore to consider adding your voices to object to these chemicals being used simply to line pockets of big chemical companies that do so much harm to living creatures like us humans and the children of the future, and urge the UK to follow other EU countries lead in banning nicotinoids as pesticides also for the good of public health.
Thank you for your attention and possible support of such issues. |

I also replied to the local MP survey letter received that listed ENVIRONMENT as one of his TOP 5 PRIORITIES ...asking him to confirm what the UK is doing to stop dumping our time consuming household waste separation in foreign countries as widely reported with evidence of it on even tourist isolated islands as well as China ! what point is there in having a NOT IN MY BACKYARD attitude to dumping waste like that ? and wasting council tax payers time ! |

Conserving wild bees
Research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.
Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.
There is a spectacular display of wild bee hotels here
