Well, this is my first try to post a photo from my blog. If it works, I'll send a few more. If not, it's back to the drawing board!

That was disappointing! I was so looking forward to seeing your bees. That said, no criticism aimed at you as I wouldn't have a clue how to post a photo and don't have the means to take and down load one anyway.... it makes a bit of a mockery of me being site admin doesn't it!!! |

Okay, Adam, next question: How do I make the photos a bit smaller, AND, how would I post more than one at a time??
I know Phil explained this, but I need to be told from six different people before it sinks in....! |

Thanks Adam for facilitating that.
Sue, your blog is poetic and colourful and just paints such a wonderful picture and your comment abut the neighbours wondering what you are up to crawling about on the "magic carpet" did make me laugh. If only they knew!
Now I really want to come and visit!
I love the fact that you can kind of play spot the hive! Initially you just see one, then another and anther. I am guessing the final one (the warre) is against the back wall, behind the one with the corrugated roof.)
Thanks so much for posting them. |

Thanks! It is fun to share these with my friends across the big waters! I'm trying to make "gobsmacked" a slang word here. It is so great a term! |

Conserving wild bees
Research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.
Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.
There is a spectacular display of wild bee hotels here
